Owu Oma 2024: Celebrating Amakohia-Ubi Umunwoha Culture In Owerri West, Imo State
Amakohia-Ubi Autonomous Community in Owerri-West LGA, Imo State, Nigeria, proudly showcases its rich cultural heritage through two unique festivals celebrated annually:

The Festivals in Detail
Okoroshi (Owu Oma) Festival
This vibrant cultural festival is celebrated annually between June and July by three towns in Amakohia-Ubi: Obiokwu, Umunjam, and Umuike.
Each town follows its unique traditional rules and regulations to honor this heritage in their own way.
Okorosha (Owu Oma) Festival
Celebrated from December to January every year, the Okorosha Owu Oma Festival is unique to the town of Umuoka in Amakohia-Ubi.
The town’s people observe their distinct cultural practices during the festival, which represents an integral part of the broader Umunwoha Ofo Ise culture and tradition.
Amakohia-Ubi, being part of Umunwoha, is proud to have Umuoka represent Ama-Ubi at the Umunwoha cultural level.
On June 28, 2024, the towns of Umuike, Umunjam, and Obiokwu in Amakohia-Ubi showcased a reformation of their culture.
The event, which concluded successfully, was graced by HRH Eze Smart Nze, Ama-Ubi 1 of Amakohia-Ubi Autonomous Community, alongside Nde Nze na Uzor.
Each town played its part in preserving and promoting their heritage according to their traditions, and the people are deeply grateful for the success of the celebration.
Now, it is the turn of Umuoka Owu Oma Culture/Festival Reformation, scheduled for December 28, 2024.
The people of Amakohia-Ubi invite everyone from Umunwoha Ofo Ise and Owerri-West to join in this grand celebration.
Amakohia-Ubi remains one community, bound by shared traditions and values.
