Owerri Fed.Legislator, Tochukwu Okere, Defects to APC from Labour Party
The announcement, which has been circulating widely on social media, has been confirmed by Okere’s political team.
Okere, who secured his seat in the last general elections under the Labour Party, has not publicly commented on his decision to join the APC.
While his defection has generated considerable discussion, there is still no official statement from him regarding the reasons behind his switch.
When contacted for clarification, Hon. Barr. Calistus Onyekwelu Ihejiagwa, the Imo State Labour Party Chairman, expressed surprise at the news.
“This is the first time I am hearing about his defection. I am not aware of it, but I will investigate and get back to you after my children’s school runs,” he stated.
Similarly, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Julius Abure, denied any knowledge of Okere’s defection. “He has not informed me about leaving the party,” Abure remarked when contacted.
However, the Imo APC LGA Chairman of Owerri North, Hon. Kelechi Azuwuike (Shegun), confirmed the report, stating, “Yes, it is true that Hon. Okere has joined the APC.”
At this point, the reasons behind Okere’s decision remain unclear, and political observers in Imo State, especially from Owerri Federal Constituency are keenly awaiting further developments.
